Golf Club Of Texas, The, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in San Antonio, Texas.
The course opened for play in 1999. The course was designed by Lee Trevino and Roy Bechtol. The course completed a $6 million dollar renovation in 2015 under the direction of golf architect Roy Bechtol.
The course rolls through a nice Hill Country setting, has generous fairways, roughs loaded with oaks, yuccas, and wildflowers, as well as water on eleven holes.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,022 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,823 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 553 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 170 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 2, a 398 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 10, a 370 yard par-4.
On both nines, the second hole is the most difficult rated hole. No. 2 goes 398 yards from the tips and features a pesky fairway bunker and generally plays into the wind. The approach is into a green guarded by deep bunkers to the left and water in back. No. 11 plays 458 yards and is lined on the right by Lucas Creek, which makes it risky to cut the corner of the dogleg right fairway. You'll inevitably be left with a long approach, so remember that the bail-out area is to the left of the green.

I played on the day before opening day. The fairways are amazing (zoysia) and no excuse for a poor shot other than my skill! The greens are still immature and were very slow. They should be awesome next year. Course amenities needed to be added...water stations, ball washer. The course has been totally renovated so please disregard any ratings prior to July of 2015. Love the wide fairways but the water and rough will cause havoc if you aren't a good course manager. Definitely will play again...I live in the neighborhood so I do have a slight bias. :-)
